Webster Foundation Aids Bodden Town Residents
The Webster Foundation has joined with the National Recovery Fund to support the housing recovery of five families in Bodden Town, one of the districts hardest hit by Hurricane Ivan.
The Foundation is donating $10,000 for various kinds of repairs, with matching grants from the National Recovery Fund. The donation was made just before Christmas, as part of the Foundation's wish to bring some measure of Christmas cheer to Bodden Town residents.
Members of the Webster Foundation - Pamela Webster, Giles Charlton-Jones and Ben Webster -- along with Executive Director of the National Recovery Fund, Dr. Mark Laskin visited one of the beneficiaries of the donation, elderly Bodden Town resident, Mr. Elwood Levy.
The present-day Websters, who trace their Cayman ancestral roots back to Bodden Town where their great grand father established the Webster church and built a home next to it, have a fondness for the district, which has underlined the establishment of the foundation.
Set up in the early 1980s by William Burnett Webster, the Foundation goal is to assist with projects for the greater good of the Cayman Islands, with an emphasis on education.
"We decided we needed to give back to Bodden Town," said Ben Webster.
The Foundation's director, Giles Charlton Jones, noted that in the past the Foundation had supported charities such as the Pines and Cayman Hospice Care and is still looking at assisting with educational projects.
The five houses in Bodden Town, including that of Mr. Levy, will be repaired or furnished over the next several weeks.
In accepting the donation, Dr. Laskin noted that the fund was extremely grateful to the Webster Foundation for its matching support of efforts in Bodden Town and looked forward to helping the residents live more comfortable and fulfilling lives in their repaired accommodation as result of the generous contributions from the Foundation.
About the National Recovery Fund
The National Recovery Fund was established on 23rd September 2004 to provide relief for persons adversely affected by Hurricane Ivan through its housing recovery programme aimed at restoring families to suitable living conditions.
The Fund is a private independent Trust administered by a Board of Trustees. The Fund relies solely on donations to carry out its programmes.
