Grand Old House's Rum Festival

Dr. Mark Laskin, Executive Director of the National Recovery Fund receives a cheque from Grand Old House's Manager, Martin Richter, part proceeds from the recent rum festival. Last month's three-day rum festival at Grand Old House, the first of what is planned to be an annual event, not only showcased some of the Caribbean's and the world's finest rums, but provided well-needed funds for the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund.

As part of the festival, the works of acclaimed Cuban artist, Angel Rivero Sierra were exhibited and made available for sale. Grand old House donated a percentage of the proceeds from the sale to the National Recovery Fund, for a total contribution of $1,174.00. The artist's participation in the Festival was sponsored by Jacques Scott.

Held from October 13 to 15, the Rum Festival featured workshops with rum experts, rum tasting and cooking classes.

Executive Director of the National Recovery Fund, Dr. Mark Laskin accepted the donation from Grand Old House's Manager, Martin Richter. "The Fund is delighted with your efforts on our behalf and we appreciate the work of the staff at Grand Old House and of the event sponsor, Jacques Scott for this fundraiser, which brings yet another generous donation to the Fund," Dr. Laskin said.

Established on 23rd September 2004, the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is a private, independent, charitable trust, focused on helping those most vulnerable - the elderly, disabled, ill and families with young children - to restore their lives and recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan.
