36-Hours DVD Now Available for Purchase

The 36-Hours DVD was presented to His Excellency The Governor Bruce Dinwiddy, CMG (centre) by documentary producers Ward Scott of GIS (left) and Rick Alpert of CITN (right) 36-Hours, the collaborative feature length DVD which looks back at Hurricane Ivan and its effect on the citizens of the Cayman Islands, is now available for sale at various locations around Grand Cayman.

The DVD, which includes never before seen special features, is a collaborative output of CITN and the Government Information Services (GIS). All proceeds from sales of the DVD will go directly to the ongoing efforts of the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund (NRF) to assist persons in meeting their post-Ivan housing needs.

36-Hours premiered on Wednesday, 7 September, and then aired again prior to the NRF telethon Raising the Roof, an event which raised nearly CI$2 million for continued local recovery from the worst disaster to affect Cayman in modern times. The special features on the DVD include a recovery pictorial and a message from the Leader of Government Business, the Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, who has Ministerial responsibility for government's recovery initiatives.

His Excellency the Governor Bruce Dinwiddy CMG, who participated in the telethon, offered his strong support for the DVD, saying: "I hope the community will continue to support the Fund through the challenging times ahead by purchasing this historic DVD. The Fund must raise up to another CI$15 million, just to cover the needs of which they are already aware. Combined community efforts such as these help to keep the public focused on meeting the needs of those still trying to recover." Mr Dinwiddy added that the some $100,000 expected to come from sales of the DVD will make a substantial difference to many individuals still struggling after Ivan.

Executive Director of the NRF, Dr. Mark Laskin, added his comments: "One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to rebuilding the homes and lives of those who are still suffering as a result of Ivan's destructive path. Whether keeping it as a memento for your own family, or mailing it abroad, this enables those who care about Cayman not only to own a piece of its living history but also to support a worthy cause."

Chief Information Officer Patricia Ebanks praised CITN for its public spiritedness in donating time and efforts to making this project a reality. "A video product of such quality demands a great deal of skill, dedication and man hours. GIS has been greatly encouraged by this strong working relationship with our colleagues at CITN. They have held out a mighty helping hand to the community through this project."

The DVD is now available to the public at the nominal fee of CI$27.50 each. Points of sale will include all major supermarkets, GIS in Cricket Square and the National Recovery Fund in Trinity Square on Eastern Avenue. It will also be available in the Brac later this week.
