Telethon Sponsors Gear Up To "Raise The Roof"

NRF's Dr. Mark Laskin | C&W Tim Adam | Cayman 27's Cynthia Arie and Chris Sariego of the Marriott Hotel.

As major supporters of the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund's telethon, slated for 10th September, Cable & Wireless, Marriott Resort and CITN/Cayman 27 are making final preparations for "Raising the Roof", and arranging donations for the Fund's programme to repair, and in some cases, replace hurricane-damaged homes.

Cable & Wireless has signed on to support the telethon with all phones through which pledges will be received, as well as live webcast of the event, through which donors in the Cayman Islands and overseas can watch the telethon live and participate.

Chief Executive of C&W, Mr. Tim Adam noted that his company's support of the telethon is a continuation of its longstanding support of the Fund and of Cayman's post- Ivan recovery.

"From the very beginning, Cable & Wireless was one of the first local companies to lend its support to the National Recovery Fund by providing office space, phone and internet service to carry out its operations and has since continued a partnership by providing assistance to ensure the Recovery Fund's programmes are a success," Mr. Adam said.

Support such as this has enabled the Fund to keep its administrative expenses to less than two per cent, leaving 98 per cent of all contributions received by the Fund to be spent directly on rebuilding families' lives.

"We at C&W recognize that we will do well only as long as the Cayman Islands does well and our islands will only do well if their people do well," he added.

The telethon will be held at the new Orchids ballroom of the Marriott Resort, which has undergone a $50 million-renovation post Ivan. Following the telethon, the Marrriott will relaunch with a grand opening on 1st November and re-opening party at the beginning of December.

Managing Director, Mr. Chris Sariego said: "The entire staff of the Marriott are excited to be part of this event and will be giving a token of their support for a project aimed at giving back to the community. This is also an opportunity for us to showcase our product and a new culture aimed at exceeding expectations."

The Ivan-anniversary telethon will be aired live on Cayman 27 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Radio Cayman will also broadcast live and further participation from radio stations will come from dms broadcasting.

The telethon brings together an exciting entertainment line up featuring local bands and artistes performing a wide spectrum of musical genres including pop, jazz, Caribbean, country and gospel selections.

All proceeds from the telethon will be allocated to rebuilding the lives of those most vulnerable who suffered at the hands of Hurricane Ivan.

About The National Recovery Fund

Established on September 23, 2004, The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is a private, independent, charitable trust focused on helping families restore their lives and recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan.

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund focuses on the most vulnerable population - the elderly, disabled, ill, and families with young children. Immediately following Hurricane Ivan, the Fund addressed the critical need to 'dry in' families by repairing and replacing roofs, windows and doors lost in the hurricane.

The Fund is now focused on restoring families to suitable living conditions. For more information on how to help or to apply for support, contact 943-3863."
