Love in Action
As the National Recovery Fund (NRF) carries on with rebuilding and restoring homes damaged by last year's Hurricane Ivan, local individuals and organizations continue to support the Fund's efforts with donations.
The latest outpouring of support has come from Love in Action, an outreach of the Cayman Ministers Association, led by Pastor Al Ebanks, Rev. Nicholas Sykes and Pastor Dave George.
Love in action recently handed over some 600 rolls of tar paper and a quantity of sheetrock frames to help the NRF's rebuilding efforts. Love in Action itself has played a major role in Grand Cayman's recovery efforts and has helped to repair more than 400 homes, churches and retirement facilities and given supplies to over 1,000 homes.
"We are still finding that there a lot of places that need help, e.g. with painting, even though they have roofs," noted Brian Pairadeau, a member of Love in Action. He noted that the group was looking at other ways of getting volunteer groups together to help the needy.
Pleased with Love in Action's donation, Executive Director for the National Recovery Fund, Dr. Mark Laskin stated "We remain grateful to the people of the Cayman and organizations such as Love in Action for their generosity. Much remains to be done, and we encourage others to become involved in rebuilding our community." He noted that the Fund is now focused on total rebuilds of properties that were so severely damaged that they are beyond repair.
The National Recovery Fund, a private independent trust, was set up after Hurricane Ivan to provide relief to those most affected by the hurricane. The Fund and has been instrumental in carrying out repairs to many homes around the island and relies solely on private donations.
